Description

Getting to this huge ice cave in Skaftafell national park involved walking in pouring rain for half an hour, but our group made the effort and got a beautiful, icy shelter. The shot was taken during my second 2013 'Land of Ice' workshop earlier this year.

If you'd like to experience and shoot these awesome locations under my dedicated guidance, please check out my upcoming 'Land of Ice' (south Iceland) and 'Winter Paradise' (northern Iceland) photography workshops next January!

You're also welcome to follow me on my facebook page, where you can get a first look at my images, as well as get all the info about my work, photo tours and other news.

I've been in a similar place, altough in a way smaller and humbler scale, in a little (and I mean minuscule, like 40x40 metres) in a little side valley in the Aosta Valley, every year this little body of ice and snow resists until somewhen around the start of June, then it melts and implodes...

but not few times, it can resist all the summer too, and I've been inside its icy central cave. Always in winter, or in the times of the good season when it's still safe (I like being alive, and I don't like giving the rescue teams extra unneeded work :P)

The feeling inside places like this is quite humbling, and surreal... like entering another world of different color and sound...
